The Edo State Executive Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC), led by Chairman Jarret Tenebe, has been returned unopposed for a second term following the party’s State Congress held in Benin City.

Delegates from the 192 wards of the state unanimously reaffirmed the executive members through a voice vote at the congress, which took place at the Victor Uwaifo Creative Hub and was supervised by the Chairman of the National State Congress Committee for Edo State, Hon. Kabiru Ajana. The exercise was conducted peacefully.

Shortly after the re-election, Tenebe, speaking on behalf of the executive, endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Monday Okpebholo for second terms in office, citing what he described as their strong performance. He also declared support for Senator Adams Oshiomhole, representing Edo North, for another term in the Senate, praising his representation.

Tenebe described the unanimous affirmation as a renewed call to service and pledged that the executive would continue to prioritise the interests of Edo people while supporting the governor’s development agenda.

Expressing appreciation to party members, he said the confidence reposed in the executive was both humbling and motivating. He recalled serving as Deputy State Chairman during a challenging period in the party’s history, noting that unity and commitment among members helped the APC overcome internal difficulties.

Acknowledging that his decisions in office may have offended some members, Tenebe offered an apology to anyone who felt aggrieved, stressing that his actions were taken in good faith and in the overall interest of the party. He extended a hand of reconciliation, urging members to move forward together in unity.

He also reflected on the party’s leadership role during the build-up to the 2024 governorship election, describing it as a defining moment marked by varying political interests and internal tensions. However, he maintained that all efforts were geared toward strengthening the party’s position in the state.

Calling the re-election the beginning of a new chapter, Tenebe emphasised the need for unity, inclusiveness and cohesion within the party.

Senator Oshiomhole, in his remarks, commended delegates for what he described as a seamless congress, saying it demonstrated the APC’s unity in Edo State. He also praised Governor Okpebholo for fostering harmony within the party.

Dignitaries present at the congress included the Minister of Regional Development, Abubakar Momoh; Deputy Governor Dennis Idahosa; Secretary to the State Government, Musa Ikhilor; and other party leaders and stakeholders.
