A United States Senate committee hearing was briefly disrupted on Wednesday after a protester was forcibly removed by officers of the US Capitol Police.
The protester, identified as Brian McGinnis, a Marine veteran and Green Party Senate candidate in North Carolina, interrupted the session by shouting, “No one wants to fight for Israel,” as officers moved to escort him out of the chamber.
Video footage from the incident showed McGinnis resisting removal while holding onto a doorway as law enforcement officers attempted to pull him away. Montana Republican Senator Tim Sheehy was also seen assisting the officers during the confrontation.
In a statement posted afterward, Sheehy described McGinnis as disruptive and accused him of coming to the Capitol with the intention of provoking a confrontation.
Reports indicate that McGinnis sustained an arm injury during the struggle, which was later confirmed to be a fracture. According to a Green Party official, he was arrested after the incident and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Earlier, McGinnis had posted a video from Capitol Hill saying he planned to question lawmakers about the possibility of deploying American troops in foreign conflicts.
The hearing was focused on the readiness of the US military amid growing tensions involving the United States, Israel and Iran. The disruption has since sparked renewed debate over domestic reactions to the escalating international situation.
