The newly confirmed Inspector‑General of Police, Tunji Disu, has removed Assistant Commissioner of Police Benjamin Hundeyin from his role as Force Public Relations Officer, just six months after his appointment to the position.

Hundeyin, who had been the national police spokesperson and was widely considered experienced in security communications, was notified of his removal on Thursday morning in Abuja as part of a broader administrative restructuring under the incoming IGP.

The reasons behind the decision have not been publicly detailed, but sources within the Force say the change aligns with Disu’s plans to install his own leadership team soon after taking over Nigeria’s top police job. Hundeyin, a career police officer with experience in both domestic command and international missions, now leaves the critical communications department as the hierarchy waits for an official announcement on his successor.

The move comes shortly after Disu’s inauguration as the 23rd substantive Inspector‑General of Police, amid expectations of broad reforms within the Nigeria Police Force.
