Nigerian entertainer Nasiru Lawal, popularly known as Nasboi, has criticised Lagos-based radio station Naija 102.5 FM over what he described as misleading editing of an interview that sparked controversy on social media.
Nasboi expressed his displeasure in a series of posts on his official X account, accusing the station of using clickbait tactics that could damage his professional relationships.
According to the comedian-turned-musician, the issue began after he was asked during an interview about his relationship with Afrobeats star Davido. Nasboi said he responded respectfully, explaining that Davido is not just a friend but someone he considers a boss.
However, he alleged that the station edited the clip and circulated only the portion where he said “Davido isn’t my guy,” leaving out the part where he clarified that Davido is his boss.
He warned that such editing practices could lead to misunderstandings and harm an artist’s reputation.
Nasboi also revealed that similar experiences in the past made him step away from interviews and podcasts for about a year. He said some media platforms often twist statements in order to attract attention online, without considering the consequences.
He added that during the same interview, he had noted that not everyone would enjoy his music, just as some listeners may not like songs from artists like Burna Boy, Wizkid or Davido. According to him, headlines later suggested he had criticised Wizkid’s music, which he said misrepresented his comment.
Nasboi first gained popularity online for his “Low-Budget Davido” comedy skits, a parody that eventually caught Davido’s attention and earned him recognition from the Afrobeats star.
Despite his early success in comedy, Nasboi pursued a career in music and has gradually established himself as a recording artist. His songs, including Lover Boy and the hit track Umbrella, have helped him gain wider acceptance in the Nigerian music industry.
Today, Nasboi is regarded as one of the content creators who successfully transitioned from digital comedy to mainstream music, inspiring a new generation of creatives seeking to expand beyond a single platform.
