The Nigerian Guild of Editors has set up a new committee aimed at improving professional standards and expanding knowledge within the media industry. The initiative is intended to strengthen journalism practice through research, training, and publication activities.
According to the Guild, the committee will focus on enhancing journalists’ skills and encouraging stronger academic engagement with media practice. It is also expected to bridge the gap between theoretical communication studies and the practical challenges faced by journalists in newsrooms across the country.
The body will conduct studies on trends affecting media audiences, including readership, viewership, and listenership patterns. It also plans to organise training programmes and produce books, journals, and digital materials that promote innovation and professionalism in journalism.
Members of the committee include experienced media professionals and scholars who are expected to contribute their expertise toward strengthening the Guild’s intellectual and professional activities. The committee has been given a two-year mandate to carry out its responsibilities and support the growth of quality journalism in Nigeria.
