Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team, the D’Tigress, has begun an intensive training camp in Lyon, France as they gear up for the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup qualifying tournament. The team is focused on fine-tuning strategies and building cohesion ahead of a challenging series of matches.
Led by head coach Rena Wakama, the squad has started rigorous sessions that include fitness drills, tactical exercises, and simulated game scenarios to ensure they are fully prepared for their opponents.
The qualifiers, running from March 11 to 17, will see the D’Tigress face strong teams including Colombia, South Korea, the Philippines, France, and Germany in a round-robin format. Each match presents an opportunity to test new tactics and strengthen team chemistry.
Following their AfroBasket triumph, the Nigerian side has already secured a spot at the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup in Berlin. This training camp and the qualifiers serve as a key step in sharpening their skills and maintaining momentum ahead of the global tournament.
