In a move aimed at transforming daily life and economic activity in the Badagry area of Lagos State, Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo‑Olu has officially launched a series of electricity network improvements across key communities along the state’s western border.

The initiative focuses on upgrading and expanding power distribution lines in the Gbaji‑Seme and Owode‑Apa corridors, where households and businesses have long struggled with unreliable supply. The new infrastructure includes strengthened distribution networks and upgraded electrical towers designed to deliver more consistent electricity to residents and enterprises.

Speaking at the commissioning event, Sanwo‑Olu highlighted that the project goes beyond installing wires and poles — it represents a strategic effort to support economic growth, boost local commerce, and improve quality of life for border communities. Officials say stable power could enable longer business hours, better school and health‑facility operations, and broader opportunities for small manufacturers and traders.

The governor also noted that Badagry’s unique position as a gateway into Nigeria and West Africa makes reliable electricity especially important for regional trade and cross‑border activity. Officials believe that the upgrades will help unlock this potential and contribute to the state’s wider development goals.

Sanwo‑Olu said the state government plans to continue investing in energy infrastructure as part of its broader effort to expand access to electricity and strengthen resilience across all parts of Lagos State.
