The Nigerian Army has announced that its troops successfully located and destroyed a suspected improvised explosive device (IED) production site in Imo State as part of ongoing operations to improve security in the region.
According to the military, soldiers attached to efforts under Operation UDO KA uncovered the facility during clearance missions in parts of the state known for frequent attacks. The discovery follows sustained efforts to remove threats posed by armed groups and to protect civilians.
At the same time, the army said troops reopened a strategic road linking local communities that had been blocked and unused for over three years due to persistent insecurity. The route’s restoration is seen as crucial for the movement of people, goods, and services in the area.
Explosive Ordnance Disposal experts were reported to have disarmed several devices found along the road, increasing safety as residents begin to return and travel through the region again.
The military reiterated its commitment to dismantling criminal networks and called on residents to continue providing information to strengthen security efforts.
