Prominent leaders from the Niger Delta have cautioned politicians and supporters against promoting ethnic tension as preparations for Nigeria’s 2027 general elections gradually intensify. The regional figures stressed that inflammatory rhetoric and divisive campaigns could destabilize the country and threaten peaceful political participation.

The leaders warned that political competition should not be turned into a platform for ethnic hostility or regional rivalry. According to them, Nigeria’s democratic process must remain inclusive and respectful of the nation’s diverse ethnic and cultural groups. They urged political actors to prioritize national cohesion rather than exploit identity differences for electoral advantage.

They also emphasized the need for fairness and equity in the country’s political arrangement, insisting that all regions should have a sense of belonging in national leadership. The Niger Delta representatives argued that marginalization or exclusion of any group could deepen mistrust and heighten political tensions across the federation.

While calling on citizens to remain peaceful, the leaders urged political parties, community stakeholders, and government institutions to ensure that the coming election cycle is guided by justice, equal representation, and responsible political engagement.
