The Bauchi State Government has received nutrition support worth ₦600 million from the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) to help address child malnutrition in the state. The aid aims to prevent and treat severe and moderate malnutrition among young children.
The donation includes ready-to-use therapeutic food (RUTF) and small-quantity lipid-based nutrient supplements (SQLNS), specially designed to support children’s growth and nutritional recovery. Bauchi remains one of Nigeria’s states with a high burden of childhood undernutrition, particularly for children under five.
The state government contributed ₦300 million through the Child Nutrition Fund, which was matched by UNICEF, highlighting a shared commitment to improving nutrition outcomes and reducing malnutrition rates.
Officials emphasized the importance of extending support to internally displaced children in camps, where malnutrition rates are especially high, and assured that the supplies will be distributed responsibly to reach the children who need them most.
