In a major anti‑graft victory, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has successfully dismantled an organised visa‑fraud operation in Lagos State and secured a conviction against a local government staff member involved in the scheme.
The case was heard on March 12, 2026, at the Ikeja High Court (Criminal Division), where Honourable Justice O.A. Okunuga oversaw the prosecution. Evidence revealed that the accused, a government worker from Ikeja Local Government, was complicit in generating fake official documents to help applicants secure visas fraudulently.
Investigators traced the fraud back to a petition from a foreign diplomatic mission, which flagged several visa applications that included forged letters claiming that applicants were government employees. The court found the official guilty of forgery and related charges after he entered a plea of guilty during prosecution proceedings.
The judge sentenced the defendant Michael kuyoro to concurrent prison terms, imposed fines, and ordered community service. Additional penalties included behavioural bonds and a ban from future public service, with his biometric data added to a national offenders’ registry to prevent further misuse of office.
The ICPC stressed that this judgement serves as a warning to public servants and others tempted to exploit official positions for personal gain, and reiterated its ongoing commitment to combating corruption and fraud across the country.
