Police Leadership Strengthens Ties with Anambra Government Ahead of New Term

Senior officials of the Nigeria Police Force have reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining security in Anambra State following a high-level visit to Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo in Awka.

The delegation, representing Inspector-General of Police Tunji Disu, was led by Deputy Inspector-General Kenechukwu Onwuemelie. The visit formed part of activities surrounding the governor’s second-term inauguration.

During the meeting, Soludo congratulated the police leadership, describing their appointments as timely given the region’s security challenges. He stressed the need for stronger cooperation between the state government and law enforcement agencies to preserve peace and support economic development.

The governor also reiterated his administration’s readiness to work closely with the police, pledging continued support to improve safety across the state. He further drew attention to ongoing disputes over traditional leadership in parts of Awka, urging the police to assist in enforcing decisions reached by investigative panels.

Speaking on behalf of the IGP, Onwuemelie expressed appreciation for the reception and assured the state government of the police force’s dedication to deepening collaboration with relevant stakeholders. He emphasized that protecting lives and property remains a top priority.

The delegation included Anambra State Commissioner of Police Ikioye Orutugu, underscoring the continued push for coordinated efforts between security agencies and state authorities to sustain peace in the region.
