PDP Slams Federal Government Over Nigeria’s Terror Ranking, Demands Urgent Security Overhaul

Nigeria’s main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has strongly criticised the current administration following the country’s latest position in the 2026 Global Terrorism Index, describing the development as a reflection of worsening insecurity.

In a statement issued by its spokesperson, the party expressed concern that Nigeria’s placement among the most terrorism-affected nations highlights what it called a failure of leadership in addressing persistent violence and attacks across the country. The PDP argued that the ranking mirrors the daily reality faced by many citizens who continue to grapple with fear, kidnappings, and killings.

The opposition party further accused government officials of lacking urgency, alleging that those in charge of national security have not demonstrated the level of commitment required to tackle the crisis. It maintained that the situation has deteriorated significantly, with insecurity spreading across multiple regions.

Citing findings from the global report, the PDP noted that Nigeria remains one of the countries most impacted by terrorism, with rising casualties and increasing attacks linked to extremist groups. Recent incidents, including deadly assaults and bombings in parts of the country, have reinforced concerns about the growing threat.

The party called on the federal government to adopt a more proactive and coordinated approach, urging authorities to move beyond reactive responses and implement long-term strategies aimed at preventing attacks and restoring public confidence in the nation’s security system.
