Vitel Introduces Non‑Expiring Data to Revolutionize Internet Use in Nigeria

Vitel Wireless has launched a new data product in Nigeria that lets customers keep their purchased internet data until it’s fully used — with no expiry date — aiming to ease frustrations over wasted data and frequent purchases. The service, dubbed “Data Wey No Dey Expire,” means that once users buy data, it stays valid until it’s completely consumed.

At the launch event in Lagos, the company’s Chairman and CEO said the move was inspired by ongoing concerns about the traditional data model, where unused data expires after short time frames, leading to losses for many subscribers. He noted that unpredictable factors like inconsistent electricity and tight personal budgets often make it hard for users to finish data bundles before they lapse.

Vitel also announced free eSIMs for users who want to test the service alongside their current mobile lines without switching entirely. Looking ahead, the company plans to offer similar non‑expiring bundles tailored to popular apps and platforms, including social, entertainment, and messaging services.

In addition to its data offer, Vitel outlined broader technology plans, such as a proposed “X Phone” device and location awareness features to support user safety. Positioned as a Mobile Virtual Network Operator, Vitel leverages existing network infrastructure to focus on innovation and cost‑effective connectivity across Nigeria.
