Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has ordered all political appointees in his administration who intend to contest in the forthcoming general elections to resign on or before March 30, 2026.

The directive was contained in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary and is aimed at ensuring uninterrupted governance as political activities begin to gather momentum.

The governor made this known while hosting Muslim faithful at an iftar gathering at the Government House in Makurdi. He explained that early resignation would allow for the timely appointment of replacements, thereby preventing disruptions to ongoing government programmes and projects.

Alia stressed that his administration remains committed to delivering meaningful development, particularly in infrastructure and public service, and cannot afford setbacks caused by political transitions.

He reaffirmed his dedication to improving the welfare of the people, describing his leadership as a covenant with the citizens of Benue State. The governor also called on residents and stakeholders to support his vision, noting that no personal or political interest would be allowed to hinder the state’s development agenda.
