The Nigeria Police Force has announced stricter controls on digital messaging among officers, following growing concerns over the leakage of internal information. The Inspector‑General of Police, Tunji Disu, has mandated that all police personnel review their use of WhatsApp and other unofficial communication channels.

Under the new directive, retired or dismissed officers are to be removed from internal messaging groups, and active personnel are instructed to limit discussions on unofficial platforms. The move is aimed at safeguarding operational plans, internal decisions, and sensitive information from being exposed outside the force.

Police leadership described the initiative as part of a broader effort to strengthen discipline, professionalism, and institutional integrity. They emphasized that the policy applies to all ranks and commands nationwide.

The crackdown comes amid ongoing reforms within the police service, reflecting a commitment to tighter internal controls and enhanced accountability in communication practices.
