A journalist in Bauchi State has filed a lawsuit against officers of the Nigeria Police Force following an alleged assault during Eid al‑Fitr celebrations in Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area.

The reporter, covering the Eid Durbar festivities for his radio station, says the incident began when a police divisional officer tried to prevent him from entering an event venue despite showing his press credentials.

The situation reportedly escalated into physical violence, leaving the journalist injured and in need of medical attention.

Media advocacy groups have condemned the alleged attack, emphasizing that such incidents undermine journalists’ ability to report freely on matters of public interest. Calls are increasing for the Bauchi State Police Command to hold the officers involved accountable.

At the time of reporting, the Bauchi State Police had not publicly responded to the lawsuit or the allegations.
