Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has appealed to the Abia State Government to honour the memory of renowned cleric Rev Uma Ukpai as plans progress for his burial in Ohafia later this week. The former governor made the appeal while reflecting on the late preacher’s enduring influence.
In a statement he personally endorsed on Monday, Kalu described Rev Ukpai as a towering figure in the Christian faith whose life left a deep and lasting mark on both religious and social spheres. He noted that the cleric’s impact went far beyond church activities, touching communities across Nigeria and even internationally.
Kalu emphasised that Rev Ukpai’s teachings and outreach efforts played a vital role in shaping lives, adding that his legacy deserves recognition that goes beyond words. He suggested that the state government take deliberate steps to ensure the preacher’s contributions are preserved for future generations.
The senator further highlighted the importance of celebrating individuals who dedicated their lives to service, pointing out that Ukpai’s values of humility, discipline and compassion remain relevant, especially in challenging times when moral standards are under strain.
He also extended his sympathy to the bereaved family, church members and associates of the late evangelist, offering prayers for strength and comfort as they prepare to lay him to rest.
