PDP factions exploring paths to lasting resolution – Turaki

The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN), has disclosed that rival factions within the party are actively seeking ways to resolve the internal crisis threatening its unity.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Turaki urged party members and supporters to tone down inflammatory remarks and actions that could undermine ongoing reconciliation efforts.

He explained that the move toward reconciliation follows guidance from the Court of Appeal in Ibadan, which recently advised parties involved in the PDP dispute to pursue dialogue in order to prevent further division.

According to Turaki, the party’s Board of Trustees, led by Senator Adolphus Wabara, has constituted a high-level committee tasked with engaging aggrieved members, resolving lingering issues, and repositioning the party ahead of upcoming elections.

As part of efforts to ease tensions, the National Working Committee (NWC) has postponed previously scheduled National Executive Committee (NEC) and National Caucus meetings, while also reducing hostile public exchanges.

Turaki, however, expressed concern over what he described as continued use of provocative language by the opposing faction, despite expectations of mutual restraint. He nonetheless affirmed that leaders on both sides have initiated dialogue and are exploring practical solutions to end the crisis.

He reassured party members, especially aspirants, that the PDP remains committed to fielding candidates for all elective positions in line with its constitution.

The chairman also appreciated Nigerians who continue to show interest in the party, noting that despite recent challenges, the loyalty of its supporters remains strong.

Turaki emphasized the importance of a vibrant opposition in sustaining democracy, stating that the PDP remains dedicated to holding the government accountable and strengthening democratic governance in Nigeria.

He further called on those in positions of authority to act in accordance with the will of the people, stressing that power ultimately belongs to the জনগ.

The PDP chairman concluded by reaffirming the party’s readiness to participate in future elections and provide a credible platform for political competition, while also conveying a vote of confidence in Governors Bala Mohammed and Seyi Makinde for their leadership during the crisis.
