At a time when political divisions continue to dominate public discourse, the need for leaders to rise above party differences in the interest of Abia State has never been more urgent. Governance is not a contest of egos but a responsibility to serve the people,a responsibility that must never be compromised by rivalry, sentiment, or partisan loyalty. True leadership is measured by the ability to put Abia first at all times.

Across the state, there are encouraging signs of progress that reflect a renewed sense of direction and purpose. These developments, however, can only be sustained through the collective goodwill of all political stakeholders. When politicians allow ideological differences or party affiliations to overshadow their duty to the people, the result is unnecessary friction that slows meaningful progress.

Patriotism, in its truest sense, demands that leaders support what is right, regardless of who initiates it. Abia cannot afford a situation where good policies are resisted simply because they originate from opposing political camps. Citizens deserve a leadership class united by a shared vision for development, even when approaches or ideologies differ.

It is essential, therefore, for politicians across all divides to adopt a collaborative mindset, one that prioritizes results over recognition. Constructive engagement, rather than destructive opposition, should define the political culture of the state. Healthy criticism is vital in any democracy, but it must be sincere and aimed at improving governance, not undermining it.

In this regard, Dr Uche Ogah exemplifies a commendable approach to politics. Despite belonging to an opposition party in Abia State, he has demonstrated that political differences need not impede progress. His stance reflects a patriotism that places the interest of Abia above partisan considerations, showing that leadership is ultimately about impact, not affiliation.

As Abia continues on its path of growth and transformation, the role of politicians in safeguarding this progress cannot be overstated. The state’s future depends on leaders willing to look beyond party lines and work collectively for the common good. Only by embracing unity over division can Abia achieve lasting development and secure a prosperous future for generations to come.
