The World Health Organization (WHO) has urged governments to ensure that refugees and migrants have full access to national health systems and policies.
The agency emphasized that displaced persons and migrants often face barriers to essential medical care, including preventive services and treatment for chronic and infectious diseases. These obstacles can include language difficulties, lack of documentation, discrimination, and restrictive regulations in some countries.
WHO called on countries to design health policies that are inclusive, allowing refugees and migrants to access quality services without discrimination. Officials stressed that such measures not only protect vulnerable populations but also strengthen public health systems as a whole.
Health experts note that integrating refugees and migrants into national healthcare strategies supports broader goals like universal health coverage and reduces the risk of preventable diseases, especially amid rising global migration due to conflict, climate change, and economic challenges
