Nigeria’s government has announced plans to significantly increase the country’s natural gas output as part of efforts to boost energy supply and support economic growth. Daily gas production has risen from about 6.8 billion cubic feet in 2023 to roughly 7.5 billion cubic feet in 2025 under the Decade of Gas initiative.
Officials say that stronger collaboration among government agencies, regulators, investors, and industry players has contributed to the recent growth. The government now aims to expand daily gas output to as much as 12 billion cubic feet by 2030, provided investment and reforms continue.
Key strategies include developing gas infrastructure, increasing domestic demand through gas‑to‑power and LPG usage, and building regional pipeline connections. Expanding Nigeria’s gas supply is expected to improve electricity generation, reduce reliance on polluting fuels, and strengthen the country’s position as a competitive energy supplier in Africa and beyond.
