KANO, NIGERIA – Former Deputy Governor of Kano State, Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, has officially left the All Progressives Congress (APC) to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC), marking a notable shift in the state’s political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Gawuna completed his registration on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at his ward in Nasarawa Local Government Area of Kano State, where he was formally issued his ADC membership card and welcomed into the party.

The development attracted the presence of several political stakeholders and supporters, reflecting growing momentum for the ADC within Kano’s political circles. Prominent figures, including Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and other party leaders, were reportedly present at the event, signaling what observers describe as a strengthening political alignment in the state.

His move to the ADC comes shortly after he tendered his resignation from the APC. In a letter dated March 29, 2026, and addressed to his ward chairman, Gawuna described his exit as a personal and voluntary decision. He also expressed appreciation to the party for the opportunity to serve and contribute during his time as a member.

The defection is part of a broader pattern of political realignments in Kano State, as key political actors reposition themselves and refine their strategies in anticipation of the next election cycle.
