Nigeria’s electoral body has unveiled a new initiative aimed at overhauling the country’s voter database, with a nationwide revalidation exercise set to be introduced in the coming months.
The decision, which was communicated to electoral officials across the states, forms part of broader reforms designed to address irregularities and improve confidence in the voter register before future elections.
Rather than relying solely on traditional registration methods, the Commission plans to adopt a hybrid system that combines online updates with in-person verification centres spread across communities to make the process more accessible.
To support the operation, officials say additional registration equipment will be deployed, while trained personnel, including youth corps members, will assist in handling the process at various levels.
Electoral officers at the state level have been asked to begin logistical arrangements, ensuring that staff and materials are ready ahead of the official launch.
The Commission believes the exercise will help remove outdated records, correct errors, and provide a more dependable database that reflects the current voting population.
