In a move aimed at improving prison conditions, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has authorized the early release of 43 inmates from various correctional centres across the state.

The release is part of a broader strategy to tackle overcrowding in detention facilities, which has been a persistent challenge for the state’s criminal justice system. Authorities said the initiative also seeks to ensure that minor offenders and those nearing the end of their sentences are reintegrated into society.

Officials described the action as a key step in ongoing reforms to modernize prison management, enhance inmate welfare, and promote efficiency in the justice system. The governor emphasized the importance of balancing public safety with humanitarian considerations.

This latest move builds on previous efforts by the Lagos government to reduce congestion in prisons and improve living conditions for inmates, while simultaneously upgrading infrastructure and administrative procedures across the state’s correctional facilities.
