The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 37-year-old man, Opeyemi Olaniyan, for allegedly killing Ayomide Oyekunle during a violent altercation at a beer parlour in the Agbado area of Ifo Local Government.

According to reports, the incident occurred after the suspect confronted a debtor over an outstanding sum of N25,000. The situation escalated when the suspect became aggressive and broke a bottle, using it during the confrontation.

In the process, Oyekunle, 27, was injured and later taken to Strong Tower Hospital in Giwa Oke Aro for treatment. He, however, died while receiving medical care.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed the incident, stating that it was initially reported at the Agbado Police Division by the debtor, Oriade Kehinde.

Babaseyi explained that the suspect had stormed the beer parlour late at night demanding repayment of the debt. When he did not get an immediate response, he became violent and threatened those present.

During efforts to restrain him from entering the premises, the suspect attacked Oyekunle, leading to the injuries that proved fatal.

The police spokesperson added that the suspect is currently in custody, while the victim’s body has been deposited at a morgue in Olambe for autopsy.

He further disclosed that the case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCIID) in Abeokuta for further investigation and possible prosecution.
