Lagos Nurses Raise Alarm Over Alleged Abuse, Salary Delays, and Poor Working Conditions

A group of nurses in Lagos has formally called on the state authorities to investigate what they describe as troubling conditions within a healthcare facility, including claims of physical mistreatment, unpaid wages, and an unsafe work environment.

In a petition submitted to the government, the nurses accused the management of a missionary hospital of subjecting staff to intimidation and, in some instances, alleged assault. They also expressed frustration over prolonged salary delays, saying the situation has left many workers struggling financially.

According to the petitioners, the hospital environment has become increasingly difficult, with staff reportedly working under conditions they consider hazardous and lacking adequate protection or support. They warned that these issues could ultimately affect patient care if left unaddressed.

The nurses are urging the Lagos State Government to step in, conduct a thorough investigation, and ensure accountability where necessary. They also called for immediate intervention to improve staff welfare, guarantee timely payment of salaries, and enforce safer workplace standards.

The development has sparked concern among healthcare workers and observers, with many emphasizing the need to protect frontline medical personnel and uphold professional standards across health institutions.
