A powerful rainstorm has left devastation in parts of an Enugu community, destroying homes and forcing hundreds of residents out of their shelters.
The heavy downpour, accompanied by strong winds, ripped off roofs, collapsed structures, and damaged several properties across the affected area, leaving many families without shelter. The incident, which occurred after hours of intense rainfall, turned residential neighborhoods into scenes of destruction.
Residents described waking up to find their homes badly damaged, with personal belongings scattered and exposed to the elements. Some buildings reportedly suffered partial collapse, while others lost entire roofing systems, making them uninhabitable.
The storm also disrupted basic amenities in the area, as electricity infrastructure was affected in some locations, worsening the situation for those impacted.
Community members have since called for urgent assistance from government authorities and emergency agencies to provide relief materials and support for rebuilding efforts, as many displaced families are currently seeking temporary shelter with neighbours and relatives.
Local leaders are also appealing for faster intervention to prevent further hardship, especially as the rainy season continues to pose risks to vulnerable communities.
