Military personnel operating in the Niger Delta have uncovered thousands of litres of suspected illegally refined petroleum products during an operation in Rivers State.

The discovery was made by troops attached to a joint task force conducting routine patrols in Eleme Local Government Area. Reports indicate that about 3,250 litres of the substance, believed to be linked to illegal refining activities, were found along Refinery Road during the exercise.

Sources familiar with the operation said the seizure occurred in the early hours of April 20 as part of ongoing efforts to clamp down on oil theft and related crimes in the region. The recovered products were subsequently handled in line with established military procedures.

Authorities have continued to intensify operations across the Niger Delta, targeting illegal bunkering networks that contribute to economic losses and environmental damage.

The latest recovery highlights sustained efforts by security agencies to disrupt illicit petroleum activities and safeguard critical national resources.
