Jonathan Defends Presidency, Says He Gave His Best Amid Atiku’s Criticism

Goodluck Jonathan,Former President has responded firmly to remarks made by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, insisting that he put in his maximum effort while leading Nigeria.

Atiku had recently criticised Jonathan’s time in office, describing him as inexperienced and suggesting that this affected his performance as president. The comment sparked renewed political reactions among key figures in the country.

Speaking at a public event in Abuja organized by a diplomatic association, Jonathan pushed back against the criticism, stating that leadership always comes with challenges and no president can claim perfection.

He stressed that mistakes are part of governance, regardless of age or experience, and maintained that he did his utmost while in office. According to him, even the most capable leaders are not immune to errors when handling national responsibilities.

Jonathan also questioned the idea that his relatively young age at the time should be used to judge his performance, noting that he assumed office in his early 50s and still managed national affairs for several years.

He further highlighted achievements recorded during his administration, particularly in foreign relations, arguing that his government made notable progress on the international stage despite the challenges it faced.

The former president’s comments are seen as a direct rebuttal to Atiku’s recent criticism, reigniting debate around Nigeria’s past leadership and governance records.
