The Abia State Government has begun moves to upgrade three of its hospitals to meet global healthcare standards as part of efforts to strengthen the state’s medical system.

Governor Alex Otti disclosed that the administration is working toward securing international certification for selected health facilities, a step aimed at improving service delivery and boosting confidence in the state’s healthcare sector.

According to the governor, the plan aligns with ongoing reforms in Abia’s health system, which include facility upgrades, improved funding, and partnerships designed to raise the quality of care available to residents.

He explained that achieving global accreditation would not only enhance the reputation of the hospitals but also help attract skilled medical professionals and strengthen training opportunities within the state.

Otti added that the initiative forms part of a broader strategy to position Abia as a leading healthcare hub in Nigeria, with standards that meet international best practices.

The government says assessments and upgrades are already underway in the selected hospitals as it works toward meeting the requirements for certification.
