Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has encouraged the Super Falcons to give their all and secure victory against the Atlas Lionesses of Morocco in the final of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON). The highly anticipated clash will take place today (Saturday) at the Olympic Stadium, Rabat.

The Falcons, led by coach Justine Madugu, are just 90 minutes away from winning a record-extending 10th WAFCON title. In a motivational video shared on the team’s official X (formerly Twitter) account, Tinubu congratulated the players and coaching staff on their impressive journey to the final and urged them to finish strong.

“My beautiful and lovely Super Falcons, I congratulate you and the officials for qualifying for the final of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations,” Tinubu said.
“I commend your team spirit, determination, and professionalism demonstrated in all your matches so far. You are shining examples for girls in Nigeria and Africa. As you step out for the final match, I pray God crowns your efforts with resounding victory. Make us proud, our worthy ambassadors and champions. Nigerians and I are waiting to receive you with a trophy in your hands.”

The Nigerian women’s team reached the final after an impressive run in the tournament. They won their first two group games against Tunisia and Botswana, played a draw with Algeria, thrashed Zambia’s Copper Queens 5-0 in the quarter-finals, and edged South Africa’s Banyana Banyana 2-1 in the semi-finals. The Falcons have scored 11 goals and conceded just once throughout the competition.
