In a stunning display of batting prowess, South Africa’s top order led the team to a historic innings total in One Day International (ODI) cricket, posting 296 runs for the loss of eight wickets against Australia at the Cazalys Stadium in Cairns.

Competing in the first of three ODIs, the Proteas were invited to bat first, and they capitalized on the opportunity with a commanding performance. Aiden Markram, fresh off a challenging T20 International series, emerged as the standout performer, scoring an impressive 82 runs off 81 balls.

Captain Temba Bavuma and Matthew Breetzke also contributed significantly to the team’s tally with half-centuries of their own, helping South Africa achieve the highest ODI score ever recorded at this venue.

On the other side, Australia’s off-spinner Travis Head proved to be the team’s most effective bowler, taking four wickets for 57 runs in his nine overs. Despite Head’s efforts, the Australian bowlers struggled to contain the powerful South African batting lineup.

The match has set the stage for an exciting series as both teams look to gain momentum in the subsequent fixtures.
