Nigerian Editors to Spotlight Media’s Role in Democracy and Cohesion at 2025 ANEC

The Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) will host its 2025 All Nigeria Editors Conference (ANEC) from November 3–6 in Abuja, with the theme: “Democratic Governance and National Cohesion: The Role of Editors.”

In a joint statement issued on Sunday, NGE President, Eze Anaba, and General Secretary, Onuoha Ukeh, announced that President Bola Tinubu will formally declare the annual event open. The conference will also focus on the sub-theme, “Electoral Integrity and Trust Deficit: What Nigerians Expect in 2027,” addressing how editors can strengthen democracy and foster unity across the country.

The Guild explained that the gathering would explore the challenges and opportunities facing editors in promoting democratic values and national cohesion, while also highlighting best practices for the media in bridging political, ethnic, and cultural divides. According to the statement, President Tinubu, opposition leaders, ministers, governors, diplomats, and stakeholders from the private sector will attend the opening ceremony.

Over 500 media professionals are expected to participate in the four-day conference, which will feature keynote addresses and panel sessions on topics such as election disputes and judicial integrity, political and economic reforms, misinformation and AI disruption in journalism, media and national security, as well as investment opportunities for editors beyond the newsroom. This will be the second time in 12 years that ANEC is hosted in the Federal Capital Territory.

The Guild emphasized that this year’s conference aims to reinforce the media’s responsibility in nation-building by promoting unity in diversity, accountability, inclusion, and shared values. It comes just months after the NGE’s Biennial National Convention in Enugu, where new executives were elected.
