Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, has reiterated that his administration is open to strategic partnerships in power generation, transmission, and waste management to strengthen infrastructure and improve service delivery across the state.
Governor Otti made this known on Sunday, September 21, while receiving the President of INNOV Power Solutions, Engr. Mohammed Konate, who led a delegation from the United States to Government House, Umuahia.
The Governor explained that while Aba and its environs are covered by Geometric Power through Aba Power, there remain eight local government areas—including Umuahia North, Umuahia South, Arochukwu, Bende, Isiukwuato, Ohafia, and Umunneochi—that require investment in power generation and transmission.
“Generation is so critical because if we do not have power, there is nothing to transmit or distribute. We have had attractive proposals in renewable energy, and our doors remain open to investors who want to collaborate with us,” Otti said, directing the company to further engage with the Ministry of Power and Public Utilities.
On waste management, the Governor noted that his administration had declared a state of emergency on waste upon assumption of office and had since cleared major dumpsites across cities. He, however, emphasized the need for sustainable solutions, especially in exploring waste-to-power initiatives.
“Waste management is very important to us. We’ve been able to get a handle on it, but a permanent solution would be welcomed. Waste-to-power is becoming popular, though often subsidized. If you can provide innovative solutions, Abia is ready to work with you,” he added.
Earlier, Engr. Konate stated that INNOV Power Solutions is interested in bringing new technologies in power generation, transmission, and waste management to Abia. He assured that their innovations, not yet introduced in Nigeria, would make the state a model for modern energy solutions.
He commended the pace of development under Governor Otti and expressed optimism about deepening collaboration after visiting more parts of the state, including Aba.
The meeting was attended by the Deputy Governor, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, FNSE, and the Commissioner for Power & Public Utilities, Engr. Ikechukwu Monday.
