Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has approved a minor cabinet reshuffle alongside senior staff redeployments within the state civil service. The decision, announced on Monday through a statement signed by his spokesperson, Sanusi Dawakin-Tofa, is aimed at strengthening governance and improving service delivery across key ministries.

Under the directive, Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Haruna Dederi, has been reassigned to head the Ministry of Transport, while Solicitor General and Permanent Secretary, Mustapha Muhammad, has been moved to the Ministry of Environment. The Commissioner of Humanitarian Affairs, who had been overseeing the Transport Ministry in an acting capacity, will return to his substantive portfolio. The governor instructed that all affected officials complete the handover process by close of business on Tuesday, September 23, 2025.

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to transparency and performance, Yusuf said the redeployment was designed to maximize capacity, align responsibilities, and deliver effective governance. He also urged appointees and civil servants to give full cooperation to the newly redeployed officials to ensure a smooth and productive transition.

In a related move, the state government flagged off training for 380 volunteer youths, part of the 600 recruited into the Special Anti-Phone Snatching and VIP Protection Guards, as part of efforts to combat phone snatching, thuggery, and related crimes. The two-week program will equip them with essential security skills. Meanwhile, Yusuf also presented appointment letters to 4,315 former volunteer teachers, confirming them into permanent and pensionable service, building on previous approvals of 5,500 teachers in 2023, 5,632 in 2024, and 4,000 earlier in May 2025.
