Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has unveiled a new partnership with Chinese investors to enhance the state’s energy infrastructure and expand its industrial base.

In a statement shared on X on Saturday, Governor Abiodun said discussions with Jiangsu-based company, Cteec, focused on funding options, technical expertise, and the company’s readiness to deliver key energy projects in the state.

“Our discussions identified three key areas of collaboration: improving transmission and distribution networks, establishing an Industrial Park to attract Chinese manufacturers alongside integrated power projects, and installing a free 3MW power plant at the Gateway International Cargo Airport to kickstart operations there,” Abiodun stated.

He added that the Chinese delegation would tour ongoing energy and distribution projects being executed by Sahara and Powergen as part of efforts to strengthen Ogun’s power supply.

According to him, Cteec already has a 100MW investment footprint in Nigeria and plans to expand operations to include power generation, transmission, and the creation of an Industrial Park in Ogun State.

“This partnership underscores our commitment to building the energy backbone that will sustain industrial growth and drive economic prosperity in Ogun State,” the governor said.

Meanwhile, reports indicate that maiden commercial flights from the Gateway International Airport, Iperu-Ilishan, to Abuja have sold out, with subsequent tickets also fully booked — a development that highlights the airport’s readiness to serve as a major aviation hub.

“From road networks that ease the movement of people and goods to affordable housing projects that improve living standards, we remain focused on sustainable development and inclusive growth,” Abiodun added.

The Gateway International Airport received its Aerodrome Operational Permit from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority in August 2025. Passenger operations are set to commence on October 7, 2025, with Value Jet Airline offering twice-weekly flights.
