Cristiano Ronaldo has officially become the first active footballer to reach billionaire status, according to the latest Bloomberg Billionaires Index, which listed the Portuguese superstar’s net worth for the first time this week.

Bloomberg estimates the 40-year-old Al-Nassr forward’s wealth at $1.4 billion, factoring in his career earnings, sponsorship deals, and investments. The report highlights Ronaldo’s tax-free contract in Saudi Arabia and lucrative brand partnerships with Armani and Nike as key contributors to his growing fortune.

Already football’s highest-paid player, Ronaldo further increased his wealth earlier this year by signing a two-year contract extension with Al-Nassr, reportedly worth over $400 million, keeping him at the Saudi Pro League side beyond his 42nd birthday, according to BBC Sport and ESPN.

Speaking to Canal 11, Ronaldo — who holds the men’s international goal record with 141 goals in 223 appearances — said he has no intention of retiring soon despite family pressure.

> “People, especially my family, say: ‘It’s time to stop, you’ve done everything.’ But I don’t think so,” he said. “I’m still performing, helping my club and my country. I’ll stop when I feel it’s right. For now, I’m enjoying every moment.”

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner also received the Prestige Award at the Portugal Football Globes on Tuesday, which he described as recognition for his enduring dedication.

> “It’s not an end-of-career award,” he noted. “It’s a symbol of years of effort, ambition, and passion. Competing with the younger ones keeps me motivated — I still love this game.”

With his net worth surpassing $1 billion, Bloomberg says Ronaldo has solidified his place not only among football’s all-time greats but also among its most successful global entrepreneurs.
