Argentina cruised into the quarter-finals of the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile with a dominant 4–0 victory over Nigeria on Wednesday, ending the Flying Eagles’ hopes of advancing.

The Round of 16 clash, held at the Estadio Nacional in Santiago, saw the six-time champions take early control as Alejo Sarco struck in the second minute. Maher Carrizo doubled Argentina’s lead in the 23rd minute with a superb free-kick after Nasiru Salihu committed a foul near the box.

Nigeria’s call for a penalty was dismissed moments later when Salihu was brought down by Ramirez in the area. Despite some spirited play from winger Oseer Achihi and a near-goal from Daniel Daga before halftime, Argentina held firm with goalkeeper Santino Barbi producing key saves to keep the score at 2–0.

Carrizo extended the lead to 3–0 in the 53rd minute, before substitute Matheus Silvetti sealed the emphatic win with a low strike in the 66th minute.

The defeat ends Nigeria’s campaign in Chile, while Argentina advance in their bid for a record-extending seventh title. The Flying Eagles, two-time runners-up, will now shift focus to rebuilding ahead of future competitions.
