The Department of State Services (DSS) has issued a fresh warning to Nigerians about a dismissed officer allegedly posing as a member of the agency to defraud unsuspecting individuals.

In a statement posted on its official X handle, @OfficialDSSNG, on Sunday, the secret police identified the suspect as Victor Onyedikachi Godwin, a former staff member dismissed from service. The DSS said Godwin has been engaging in “unscrupulous activities,” including using the agency’s name to deceive and extort the public.

“The Department of State Services (DSS) hereby alerts members of the public to the activities of one Victor Onyedikachi Godwin, a dismissed staff. He is reportedly engaging in fraudulent acts using the name of the Service,” the statement read.

The DSS cautioned citizens to avoid any dealings with the individual and advised that all legitimate communications or complaints be directed to the Service’s verified channels.

This latest warning comes just four days after the DSS issued a similar advisory concerning another dismissed officer, Barry Donald, accused of impersonating the agency for fraudulent purposes.

Established in 1986, the DSS serves as Nigeria’s domestic intelligence agency, tasked with safeguarding internal security and counterintelligence operations.
