Emir Sanusi Visits Bandit-Hit Community, Calls for Vigilance and Support for Security Agencies

Kano, Nigeria – The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, on Sunday visited Faruruwa community in Shanono Local Government following a series of bandit attacks.

During the visit, the monarch urged heightened community vigilance and greater collaboration with security agencies to curb criminal activities spilling over from neighbouring Katsina State.

Speaking to residents, Emir Sanusi highlighted the surge in attacks in villages near Katsina, noting incidents of cattle rustling, killings, and kidnappings.

“For months, we have witnessed an increase in attacks from bandits, who have targeted innocent people and stolen livestock. This calls for proactive measures from traditional institutions, local vigilantes, and government authorities,” he said.

The Emir’s visit was aimed at consoling affected residents, reassuring them of government support, and encouraging local communities to actively participate in safeguarding their villages.

“It is our duty as leaders to be with our people, to sympathise with them, and to reaffirm that the state government is fully committed, working alongside security services,” he added.

He also confirmed that the state government had deployed personnel and resources to bolster security, including vehicles for army and police patrols, and encouraged communities to utilise local vigilante groups in maintaining safety.

Emir Sanusi further called on neighbouring Katsina communities to ensure that peace agreements with bandits do not become a loophole for cross-border attacks into Kano. He prayed for the restoration of peace and pledged continued collaboration with the state government to protect residents.

Recent military operations in Shanono neutralised 19 bandits, though two troops and a vigilante lost their lives during the confrontation.

“We pray to Allah to restore peace in our lands and remain committed to working with the government to ensure the safety of our people,” the Emir concluded.
