US Condemns Student Abductions in Niger and Kebbi, Calls for Swift Action

The United States has strongly criticised the recent kidnappings of students and teachers in Niger State, along with the earlier abduction of schoolgirls in Kebbi State.

In a statement released on Monday through its X handle, the State Department’s Bureau of African Affairs described the incidents as intolerable and urged the Nigerian government to ensure those behind the attacks are promptly brought to justice.

The statement also called on authorities to reinforce security across vulnerable areas and guarantee the protection of at-risk communities, including Christian groups.

“The United States condemns the mass abduction of reportedly over 300 students and teachers from St. Mary’s Catholic School in Papiri, Niger State, as well as the kidnapping of 25 schoolgirls from the Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School in Maga, Kebbi State,” the Bureau said, stressing the need for a decisive response.
