“Ogun Factories Closed by FG for Failing Safety Standards”

The Federal Government has ordered the closure of two factories in Ogun State — True Metals Nigeria Limited and Phoenix Steel Mills Limited — following the discovery of serious breaches of occupational safety and health regulations.

At True Metals, a battery‑recycling plant, inspectors found workers directly exposed to toxic lead emissions, operating without proper protective equipment, and in unsanitary conditions despite prior warnings.

At Phoenix Steel Mills, internal roads were impassable, drainage systems were lacking, and stagnant water surrounded the premises, all of which violated factory health and safety standards.

The factories will remain sealed until they fully comply with required safety measures. The Minister of State for Labour and Employment emphasized that job creation must never come at the expense of human lives.
