Court Postpones Hearing on Nnamdi Kanu’s Prison Transfer Request

A court in Abuja has adjourned the hearing on Nnamdi Kanu’s request to be transferred from the Sokoto Correctional Centre.

Kanu’s legal team had requested the move to a facility closer to the Federal Capital Territory, such as the Kuje Custodial Centre in Abuja or the Keffi Custodial Centre in Nasarawa State, arguing that being held in Sokoto hinders his ability to effectively pursue his appeal.

During the session, the presiding judge ordered that the prosecution and the Nigerian Correctional Service be notified and set the next hearing for January 27, 2026.

Alternatives proposed by his lawyers included transfer to any custodial facility within the court’s jurisdiction area, including locations like Suleja in Niger State.

The case continues amid concerns from his supporters that keeping him far from the capital undermines his constitutional right to appeal.
