The Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) has successfully returned 450 megawatts of generation capacity to Nigeria’s national grid after completing scheduled maintenance at the Geregu National Integrated Power Project plant in Kogi State. The four‑week maintenance operation, carried out by Siemens Energy, aimed to boost the plant’s reliability, efficiency, and extend its operational lifespan.

This restoration is part of a broader mission to revive previously idle power assets across the company’s generation fleet. In the past 12 months, six gas turbines that had remained dormant have been restored, significantly increasing the company’s available capacity.

In addition to Geregu, NDPHC has initiated rehabilitation of other plants, including the 225 MW Gbarain NIPP plant in Bayelsa, as it works to revive long‑neglected infrastructure. Despite challenges such as gas‑supply shortages and liquidity constraints in the power sector, the company has recorded notable operational and financial gains.

NDPHC also highlighted recent achievements beyond generation: recovery of abandoned turbine parts, progress on transmission and distribution projects across several states, debt recovery, insurance claims settlements, and internal reforms to improve transparency, procurement, and staff welfare.

Overall, the overhaul of Geregu marks one of the most significant power‑system recoveries in recent years, reinforcing NDPHC’s commitment to restoring dormant capacity and supporting Nigeria’s goal of stable and sustainable electricity supply.
