President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has requested the Nigerian Senate’s approval to deploy troops to the Republic of Benin following a security crisis in the country.

In a letter presented during a Senate session, Tinubu explained that the deployment is aimed at supporting Benin after an attempted takeover of power, which disrupted the nation’s constitutional order.

The President emphasized that Nigeria’s intervention aligns with regional security responsibilities to help maintain stability and democratic governance.

The Senate has referred the request to a committee for urgent review, signaling a swift consideration of the deployment proposal.
