CAC Introduces New Requirements for Online Business Name Updates

The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has announced new mandatory requirements for updating a registered business name through its online platform.

Under the updated rules, applicants must now provide additional personal and contact details, including the proprietor’s date of birth, registered office email, proprietor’s personal email, and a valid phone number. A valid means of identification is also required.

The CAC said these measures are designed to strengthen verification, improve the accuracy of business records, and prevent fraudulent filings. Business owners have been urged to ensure all required information is provided to avoid delays or rejection of their update requests.

These changes form part of broader efforts to modernise CAC services and enhance the integrity of Nigeria’s business registry as more operations move online.
