Parliament Pulls Dangote and NMDPRa Into Spotlight Over Explosive Oil‑Sector Claims

The House of Representatives’ committee has issued a summons to Aliko Dangote and top brass of the National Mid‑stream, Down‑stream and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRa) after a wave of serious accusations hit the headlines. Lawmakers want the billionaire and the regulators to answer questions about alleged irregularities, including claims of preferential treatment, opaque licensing processes and possible collusion that could be hurting ordinary Nigerians.

In a tense hearing, committee members grilled the summoned officials, demanding clear explanations for the damning reports that suggest the regulator may have turned a blind eye to certain practices in the oil sector. Dangote’s team is expected to present documents and witnesses to rebut the allegations, while the NMDPRa officials are under pressure to prove they’ve acted in the public interest.

The committee’s move underscores growing scrutiny of powerful business figures and the agencies meant to oversee them. If the allegations turn out to be true, it could spark a major shake‑up in how the country’s oil and gas sector is managed, and the fallout could ripple through markets and everyday fuel prices. The hearing is set to continue, and all eyes are on the outcome.
