The Nigerian Senate has approved President Bola Tinubu’s nominees to lead the nation’s two main petroleum regulatory agencies, marking a fresh start for the sector.

Oritsemeyiwa Amanorisewo Eyesan was confirmed as Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), while Saidu Aliyu Mohammed was appointed CEO of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).

The confirmations follow the resignations of the former heads of both agencies, which left key positions vacant amid sector challenges. The new leaders are expected to tackle pressing issues such as strengthening local refining, improving regulatory oversight, and reducing dependence on fuel imports.

Both Eyesan and Mohammed bring decades of experience in the oil and gas industry, having held senior leadership roles and managed strategic operations across Nigeria’s petroleum sector. Lawmakers highlighted the importance of their leadership in ensuring stability and growth in one of the country’s most critical industries.

With these appointments, the regulatory bodies now have the leadership needed to drive reforms and guide the sector at a pivotal time for Nigeria’s energy landscape.
