Police Urge Nigerians to Prioritise Safety, Warn Against Confronting Criminals

The Nigeria Police Force has advised citizens to prioritise their safety and avoid resisting attackers if they encounter criminals, emphasising that preserving life should come first in dangerous situations.

Force Public Relations Officer Benjamin Hundeyin made the appeal during an interview, urging members of the public to remain calm when confronted by armed or violent criminals rather than trying to fight back. He stressed that the police are responsible for pursuing and apprehending offenders, while individuals should focus on staying alive.

Hundeyin also highlighted recent progress in police efforts against criminal gangs, including arrests tied to the notorious “One‑Chance” syndicate in Abuja and suspects linked to the murder of a lawyer in the Federal Capital Territory.

In his words: “In the unfortunate event that you find yourself among criminals, do not struggle, do not fight — just stay calm and save your life first. We can always go after these criminals to have them arrested.”

The advice comes amid ongoing efforts by law enforcement to tackle violent crime across the country.
